Curriculum Standards

Preamble: The Universal American School Science curriculum represents the science program in scope and sequence. It is designed to build the essential skills and knowledge that students will need to be scientifically literate citizens in the twenty first century. The Middle School emphasis on science is carefully linked to the foundation established in the Elementary program. The curriculum is rigorous and designed to meet the problem solving and inquiry challenges that students will be exposed to at the High School level. By providing skill development and knowledge to help students understand and appreciate the interrelationships between science, society and their environment, the curriculum continues its spiral path toward the sub disciplines of science that are offered in the High School.

Investigation and experimentation objectives are essential and should be an integral part of daily lessons. Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing the content in the other three strands, students should develop their own questions and perform investigations.
